Be FLEXible in your holiday spending this year! Use your FLEX by December 31st so you don't lose it!

Most flexible spending accounts allow you to use pretax money deducted from your paycheck for out-of-pocket medical costs, contain a "use it or lose it" clause that requires workers to forfeit unused funds at the end of the calender year.

Fortunately, that's not as difficult as it sounds. By law, you must use the money for eligible expenses by Dec. 31 to avoid losing funds. However, you do not have to spend New Year's Eve compiling your receipts for reimbursement. Most plans give you until March to submit receipts for the previous year.
